Cannes

WOW!

Romania has scored big time in Cannes!

I still can't get used to the idea. This is way cool and will have consequences for many of my friends over there, as things are sure to kick into high gear in the industry!

I hear bohemian life over in Bucharest has become extremely intense. The economy is booming, the arts follow, or vice versa? Anyway, I will soon closely inspect the phenomenon and will keep you posted.

These are intriguing and highly inspiring times. There is something in the air, I can sense it, on both sides of the Atlantic. History is being forged in bold, broad moves.

Speaking of which... How cool is that: Cristi Mungiu didn't have anything a year ago, he didn't have the money for his project six months ago, and as we speak he won both the FIPRESCI and the Palme d'Or. He wrote, directed, produced "Four Months, Three Weeks and Two Days" in about as much time, on a 600k budget!

There are so many ways to get movies done, that's excellent news! All we need are fantastic stories!

I just discovered Cristi maintains a blog on his movie's site; some of his comments are in English. Lots of links to 432's reviews are posted there as well.
